Phishing scams & staying safe in Web3
Cryptocurrency, NFTs, and other Web3 projects are continuing to become more mainstream, however, it’s important to do your own research and ensure you’re taking the necessary steps to stay safe. Web3 is all about being self-sovereign with your money; this comes with the freedom to transact but also the freedom to make big mistakes if you aren’t careful.
A few simple but important tips worth knowing:
1. Secure your assets in a hardware wallet
2. Don’t click any suspicious links (pay close attention!)
3. Never give out your seed phrases, passwords, or other personal information to any individuals, websites, or other entities
The tips above are pretty essential knowledge when getting started. Scammers are constantly innovating though and being knowledgeable about certain tactics they are using is also important.
Never accept unsolicited DMs or click on links and attachments sent
Watch for fake or scam NFT projects - avoid harmful airdrops
Don’t connect your hardware wallet with any DApp you don’t trust
Scammers will use Impersonation to cause fear or illicit a response
It’s increasingly difficult and more important than ever that you stay up-to-date and vigilant when using the web to avoid phishing scams and other malicious attacks. Learn how to turn off Discord DMs here
